Arvind Kejriwal meets Pranab Mukherjee on JNU issue

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IBNS): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday over the JNU issue.

"Why are those people who attacked journalists are still roaming free," Kejriwal told reporters after meeting the President.

Kejriwal said he will urge the Centre to take steps to set things right in the county.

Speaking on his meeting with the President, Kejriwal said, "He heard our points."

Congress-vice-president Rahul Gandhi earlier in the day met President over the same issue.

Kanhaiya Kumar, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student who was arrested on sedition charges, on Wednesday appealed for peace in a Delhi court.

He made this appeal moments after he was attacked twice by lawyers.

"I believe in the unity and integrity of India and I do not support any unconstitutional or anti-national activities," Kumar was quoted as saying at the Pataiala House Court, where his bail plea was heard. 

The Delhi court sent Kumar to judicial custody till Mar 2.

He was arrested on sedition charges.

Kumar was allegedly attacked when he was brought to a Delhi court for hearing a case against him earlier in the day.

He was allegedly kicked and punched by the attackers.

In a repetition of Monday's images, a group of lawyers allegedly attacked students and journalists at the Patiala House court premises hereon Wednesday.

The attack occurred ahead of a hearing on the case related to Kumar.

The JNU  is currently facing protests and counter protests with the police cracking down on students over the anti-India slogans raised earlier to mark the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.

JNU teachers, students and media persons were allegedly attacked by lawyers in New Delhi's Patiala Court on Monday.
