Arun Jaitley should not try to scare us, fight against corruption will continue: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Dec 21 (IBNS): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley should not try to 'scare' the Aam Aadmi Party by filing a civil defamation suit against him and several other AAP leaders.

"Arun Jaitley should not try to scare us by filing a case in the court. Our fight against corruption will continue," Kejriwal tweeted.

"Jaitley ji shud cooperate wid the Commission of Enquiry n prove his innocence there," he said as he referred to the Commission of Enquiry to be formed to probe into the alleged irregularities in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

A Delhi court, meanwhile, has admitted the criminal defamation suit filed by Jaitley against Kejriwal and other AAP leaders for accusing him for alleged  irregularities in the DDCA.

The matter will be next taken up for hearing on Jan 5.

For their alleged remarks against him, Jaitley has  sought Rs 10 crore as damages from the Delhi CM and other AAP leaders.

Minister Of State for Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore told reporters:"The civil defamation suit has been filed as steps were taken to damage Mr. Jaitley's reputation. It is not acceptable."

In the Lok Sabha, Jaitley called all allegations made against him in connection  with the DDCA scam as 'baseless'.

"All the allegations made against me are baseless and false," Jaitley said.

Union Minister  Nirmala Sitharaman also came out in support of Jaitley and said it was a shame that 'baseless' allegations were leveled against him.

She tweeted: "1/n Shri @arunjaitley - a gentleman with a clean political career. What a shame that baseless allegations are being thrown at him! Only."

"2/n right that Shri @arunjaitley is challenging through the courts. Also Pol.Parties should accept to debate this in parl as offered by him," she said.

The row involves alleged financial irregularities in the DDCA which escalated  after a CBI raid on Kejriwal's top officer last week. AAP alleges that the CBI officers carried out the raid to search for DDCA files to help the Finance Minister, who was at the helm of DDCA when the corruption took place.
