Arun Jaitley meets Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop
Sydney, Mar 30 (IBNS) On the second day of his official tour to Australia, India's finance minister Arun Jaitley called upon the country's foreign minister, Julie Bishop, on Wednesday, in Sydney.
During his opening remarks at the meeting, Jaitley said that India is implementing economic reforms, especially in areas such as taxation and foreign direct investment (FDI).
He said that India faces three major challenges now, viz. boosting exports in view of shrinking global trade, increase in private investment and better hope for monsoon this year after insufficient rains in the last two consecutive years.
Jaitley explained that there is lot of scope for foreign investment in India in various sectors as they have been opened up for FDI, such as Railways, defence and manufacturing.
Speaking on the occasion, the Australian Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, said that Australia can play a major role in providing various services to India, especially in the field of innovations, R&D and designing, vocational training and skill development among others.
The Indian finance minister also thanked the Australian foreign minister for concluding the Administrative Arrangements on civil nuclear cooperation to facilitate the flow of uranium.
