Anitha suicide : Tamil organisation on demonstration demanding scrapping of NEET

Chennai, Sep 2 (IBNS) : A day after the suicide of a teenaged Dalit girl, Anitha, who led a campaign against NEET, a Tamil nationalist group on Saturday staged a protest demanding scrapping of the entrance exam, media reports said.

The organisation, Naam Tamilar Katchi, said that NEET should not be the sole criterion for medical admission and there has to be relaxation for the state board students.

Seventeen-year-old Anitha, along with few other students, had filed a petition against the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), which the Supreme Court dismissed.

She had failed to secure a medical seat on the basis of NEET exams.

She committed suicide by hanging herself on Friday.

Meanwhile,  Anitha's father has said that despite adverse circumstances, Anitha managed to focus on her studies.

"What wrong did she do and who will now answer for her death," media reports have quoted him as saying.

A huge number of people, including relatives, friends and politicians, visited Anitha's home after the tragic incident.

Her body was kept at a public place in Kuzhumur near Senthurai.

A strike has been called by various political parties in Ariyalur district with shops and other establishments remaining closed.
