After Delhi's JNU, Kolkata hears pro Afzal Guru slogans from JU rally

Kolkata, Feb 16 (IBNS): After Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), slogans in favour of hanged terrorist Afzal Guru and separatist Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani were raised from a protest march in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Protesting against the Centre's handling of JNU row, few students of Kolkata's prestigious Jadavpur University (JU) held a torch rally in Kolkata in the evening.

Besides attacking the Modi government and RSS, few protesting students shouted pro Afzal and Geelani slogans, including "Afzal bole azadi", "Geelani bole azadi", "Kashmir mange azadi, Manipur vi mange azadi" and "Chhinke lenge azadi", during the rally here.

However, condemning  such slogans, protest march's organizers said that the rally was only called to protest against the JNU row.

"We organized the rally to protest against BJP led government's steps against the agitating students of JNU. Few outsiders might be shouting such slogans. We are not separatists and don't support such slogans. We are condemning of this incident, " one organizer told IBNS.

Meanwhile, the BJP demanded immediate arrest of these students.

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh told IBNS, "Students, who are shouting anti-national slogans, should be arrested immediately. As election is coming, the TMC government did not take any step against them."

The JNU is currently facing protests and counter protests with the police cracking down on students over the anti-India slogans raised earlier to mark the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.
