67% polling till 3 PM in Assam's first phase polling

Guwahati, Apr 4 (IBNS) : Around 67 percent polling was recorded till 3 pm on Monday in the first phase poll in 65 constituencies of Assam.


The polling began in 12190 polling stations of the 65 assembly constituencies from 7 am on Monday.

95 lakh voters will decide fates of 539 candidates in the first phase poll.

Among the candidates, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi cast his vote in Jorhat. BJP’s Cheif Ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal cast his vote in Dibrugarh.

On the other hand Assam Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vijayendra said, "Voters have came out for casting their votes and we hope more than 85 percent will be polled in the first phase."

Polling is also underway for the first phase of voting in the Assembly polls in West Bengal.
