2 injured in J&K firing

Srinagar, Mar 8 (IBNS) Two persons were injured in firing by security forces in Ashmuqam town of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district early on Tuesday.

According to reports, locals were protesting in the area when the army opened  fire on the protesters.

The injured duo -Javid Ahmad Wani and Amir Ahmad Sheikh of Ashmuqam’s Sheikh Mohalla- have been rushed to Srinagar for treatment.

“On Monday evening army and police launched joint operation after receiving inputs about presence of some local militants at 'Iram Colony' of Ashmuqam after that whole area remained under tight cordon. In the morning, some locals’ assembled near the cordon area and started pelting stones on the forces,” said police official.

He further said, when locals’ approached towards the site security forces fired some gunshots towards the protesters for the safety of security forces.  

Meanwhile, Srinagar based Army Spokesman NN Joshi refused to comment on the issue and said: "We are collecting the details regarding the incident."
