Patna, July 9 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): At least 18 people were killed in Bihar after heavy rains, accompanied with lightning and storms, lashed the state on Sunday, a disaster management department official said adding the toll may rise further.

“18 deaths are confirmed till now,” said a top disaster management department official today.

Of the total deaths, four were reported from Patna, three each from Bhojpur and Vaishali districts, two each from Saran and Buxur districts and one each from Araria, Nalanda, Siwan and Aurangabad districts.

The disaster management department is keeping a close watch on the situation and has asked the officials to pay the compensation to the victim families soon.

This is the second major casualties in the past two months.

Earlier in May this year, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and rains had claimed at least 28 lives in the state.
