Severe cold wave grips Delhi

| @indiablooms | Dec 28, 2019, at 11:05 pm

New Delhi/UNI: Delhiites reeled under severe cold wave conditions on Saturday with maximum temperature not rising above 13.3 degrees C during the day, settling at seven notches below season's average here.

The mercury began to drop further towards evening with cold wave conditions dominating the city leaving the people in shivers.

According to the weatherman, temperature will further drop towards late night, while the low temperatures and high relative humidity has resulted in dense air making it difficult for dispersion of the particulate matter with air quality running under 'severe' category with an index value of 408 at 1800 hours, according to the CPCB.

People across the city, especially living on the streets, resorted to bon-fires in a bid to get relief from the freezing cold weather in the morning as well as towards evening.

Night shelters were packed with people who tried to take refuge from the freezing cold out on the streets.

Several flights got delayed and the rail traffic was also affected due to the thick fog cover over the city skies in the early morning hours.

People who headed for work in the morning were seen wrapped up in layers of woolen clothes, sporting different kind of caps and mufflers besides gloves to save themselves from cold, a rare sight since a couple of years, with Saturday morning being the coldest so far in the season with minimum temperature recorded at 2.4 degrees C.

Weatherman has forecast cold wave conditions for Sunday with minimum temperature to hover around 2 degrees C while maximum is likely to settle around 14 degrees C.
