A mild-intensity earthquake jolted snowbound Lahaul Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh on Monday night, the Indian Meteorological Department informed on Tuesday.

An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale occurred at 2237 hours last night.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in the higher reaches of a snowbound tribal district at a latitude of 32.73 and a longitude of 76.61 and a depth of five km, about 300 km from the state capital Shimla.

There was no loss of life or property reported.

Currently, the entire Lahaul Spiti district is wrapped in a thick layer of snow, and most places are on high alert for the high probability of an avalanche.
