Mercury dips in Kashmir again, Gulmarg records -5.5 deg C

Srinagar/UNI: The Kashmir valley experienced sub-zero temperatures again due to a clear sky while the ski resort of Gulmarg was the coldest place with minus 5.5 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department forecast of partly cloudy and dry weather is expected till Dec 21 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pleasant weather conditions prevailed with the bright sun appearing in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley on Tuesday. People were seen basking under it at many places.

Srinagar had a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday while the maximum temperature was 13.0 degree Celsius which was 3.5 degree Celsius above normal during this time of the year.

The ski resort of Gulmarg was the coldest place in Kashmir valley on Tuesday with the minimum temperature recorded as minus 5.5 degree Celsius which was 1.3 degree Celsius below normal while the maximum temperature also dipped to 4.4 degrees Celsius still minus 0.4 degrees below normal during this time of the year for the valley of meadow in north Kashmir.

The tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of minus 3.0 degree Celsius while the maximum was recorded at 9.4 degrees Celsius which was 2.3 degrees Celsius above normal on Tuesday.

Qazigund had a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, Kukernag minus 0.4 and the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara settled at minus 1.7 degree Celsius on Tuesday, the MeT office said.
