Flood situation improves slightly in Assam, over 5 lakh people affected

The flood situation in Assam has slightly improved but over 5.35 lakh people in 13 districts, including 1.45 lakh children, are still affected.

The first wave of flood in Assam has so far claimed 14 lives.

According to the reports of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), on June 2, three people including two children died in Nagaon and Cachar district after drowning in flood waters.

Two people in Cachar district are still missing.

The flood report of ASDMA stated that over 3.03 lakh people were affected in Nagaon district while 1.09 lakh people were affected in Cachar district, 86382 people in Hojai district, 20463 people in Karimganj district.

The flood waters submerged 8143.75 hectares of crop area, 564 villages under 26 revenue circles in Hailakandi, Karimganj, Hojai, Dhemaji, Kamrup, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Morigaon, Cachar, South Salmara, Karbi Anglong West, Golaghat, Dima Hasao district.

The administration has set up 275 relief camps and distribution centres where more than 1.77 lakh flood-hit people are taking shelter.

Police, NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES), Circle Office/Local Administration are engaged in rescue operations in various flood-hit areas.
