Flash floods hit Assam, Manipur and Mizoram, many places inundated
Guwahati/Imphal/Aizawl, June 13 (IBNS): Torrential rains in Assam, Manipur and Mizoram over the past few days have triggered massive landslides and flash floods in several parts of the three northeastern states.
Due to incessant rainfall, several parts of the Assam are reeling under flood.
The National Highway 37 has submerged under flash flood water at Bokakhat and Kaziranga area in Golaghat district due to continuous rains for the past 48-hours.
Vehicular traffic movement on National Highway 37 at Bokakhat has stopped.
Around 10 villages in Bokakhat sub-division have been affected in the first wave floods.
The flood water has inundated few parts of Kaziranga National park as well. There are no reports on animal casualties.
Several schools and government offices in Bokakhat, Kaziranga area, have been submerged by flood water.
Following torrential rains, the water levels of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are flowing above the danger-mark in various places of Assam.
In Assam's Barak valley, the overflowing Katakhal river has inundated several villages in Hailakandi and Karimganj district.
Over 50 villages have been affected in Hailakandi and Karimganj district.
A large part of Manipur’s capital city Imphal has been inundated by the flash flood caused by incessant rain over the past couple of days.
The Manipur government has declared Wednesday as a holiday in all government offices, educational institutions and other commercial establishments.
In Mizoram, flash flood waters have submerged several areas in Lunglei and Aizawl districts.
Over 250 families living along the Khawthlangtuipui river in Lunglei district were evacuated to safer places as flood waters submerged more than 180 houses.
At least 20 houses were submerged by the flood waters of Tlawng river in Aizawl district.
Massive landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have also been reported from several areas in Mizoram.
The Mizoram government has asked the people to call 1077 in case of emergencies.
