Cloud burst damages houses in Leh

Leh, Aug 4 (IBNS): A cloudburst hit Wanla village of Khalsi town in Leh district causing extensive damage to residential houses and sparking flash floods in the area, official said on Tuesday.

This was the second cloud burst in the Ladakh Division in a week.

At least 20 residential houses were damaged after a cloudburst struck Choskore Wakha village in Kargil district a few days ago.

“The cloud burst sparked flash floods causing damage to several houses,” he said adding that people in the area have been evacuated and moved to safer places,” SDM Khalsi Leh Barkat Ali Lone said.    

Meanwhile heavy overnight rain has damaged houses and crops in Leh district and incessant rain caused panic and inundated several areas including Chuchot, Thicksey, Saboo, Phyang, Shey and Nyuma valley.

“Gushing water seeped into the Leh airport disrupting Air transport for several hours. Rains also lash scores of adjoining areas of Kargil district including Sankoo and Panikhar areas,” an  official spokesperson said.
