Kolkata/IBNS: Ride-hailing app Uber on Thursday announced that it will deploy 500 E-rickshaws, the first three-wheeler product on its platform in Kolkata, for offering riders sustainable mobility solutions to support their travel needs, especially short distance and last mile commutes, in the Covid-19 world.

Riders will be able to book the micro mobility product on the Uber app from Thursday.

The service will appear as ‘Uber Toto’ alongside other familiar products like UberGo, Premier, Rentals and will be available in locations across Howrah, Barasat and Madhyamgram in North Kolkata, Rajarhat and Salt Lake in East Kolkata to improve rider options.

Earlier this month, Uber launched 100 E-rickshaws in Delhi and in 2019 had partnered with Yulu to launch a pilot offering riders smart and affordable micro mobility options in
Bangalore.

Commenting on the launch, Subodh Sangwan, General Manager, East and South India, Uber, said, "We are delighted to launch E-rickshaws on Uber’s platform as an efficient and eco-friendly mobility solution, which will offer riders convenient doorstep pickups, safe and contactless payments options, all at the touch of a button.

"As people start travelling again, we have an opportunity to reduce our environmental impact and this launch demonstrates our commitment to cater to the country’s growing need for clean transport solutions, at affordable prices."
