New Delhi/IBNS: The Geological Survey of India has refuted reports about the discovery of over 3000 tonnes of goldmine in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra district.

In a statement, GSI Director General (DG) M Sridhar said: "As per the news report, published in various media that the availability of 3350 tonnes of gold in Son Pahadi and Hardi field, Sonbhadra district, it is stated in the news that State Directorate of Geology and Mining, (DGM) Uttar Pradesh has shared this information. Geological Survey of India is not a party to the information published in the news."

"GSI has not estimated such kind of vast resource of gold deposit in Sonbhadra district, UP," it added.

The GSI Northern region had done exploration in the Field Season 1998-99 and 1999-2000 and the report was handed over to the DG Mines of the state.

However, the GSI said it had estimated a probable category resource of 52,806.25 tonnes of ore with 3.03 gm of gold per tonne which is rated as an average find at a strike length of 170 m in Sonpahari area of Sonbhadra.
