Indian market: Sensex surges by 544.99 pts

Mumbai, Aug 26 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Monday spurted by 544.99 points to 37,246.15 till noon following the rollback of an additional levy on foreign funds and measures announced by the government to boost economic growth, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said. 

She further announced an immediate infusion of Rs 70,000 crore to boost capital of banks, and lifting of curbs on government departments to buy new vehicles.

The NIfty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too gained by 179.25 points to 11,008.60.

The sectoral indices like FMCG, Finance, Realty and Bankex lifted the market.

In scrips, Yes Bank, HDFC, L & T and Bajaj Finance rallied.

The Sensex registered day high at 36,363.95, intra day high and low at 36,492.65 points respectively.

The Nifty recorded day high and low at 11,011.85 and 10,756.55 points respectively.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was ruling 109 points, or 0.8 per cent, higher at 13,311, and the S&P BSE SmallCap index gained 114 points, or 0.9 per cent, to hover around 12,300 levels.
