Lucknow/IBNS: Bringing good news to the Uttar Pradesh government, geologists have discovered two massive goldmines in the state's Sonbhadra district.

The discovery is a resultant of a combined search by the Geological Survey of India and the Uttar Pradesh Directorate of Geology and Mining for a span of two decades.

According to estimates, the two goldmines contain 3,500 tonnes of gold.

This is around five times the current gold reserves of the country which stands at around 626 tonne.

The presence of this goldmine beneath the mountains of the Naxal-hit area was first claimed in 2012 by the Geological Survey of India. It was later confirmed in 2012.

"According to District Mining Officer KK Rai, the government is thinking of putting these deposits on lease for mining," the Financial Express reported.

As per officials, a seven-member team has been set up for survey and soon auction of the blocks will begin, the report stated.
