New Delhi/UNI/IBNS: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the farmer friendly amendment in the Essential Commodities Act.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar alongwith Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar, announced the Cabinet's decision.

Javadekar said the Government is bringing three ordinances to improve the condition of farmers.

He said that the Essential Commodities Act has been amended to implement reforms related to the welfare of farmers.

'On the one hand, farmers will get fair price for their crops, on the other hand they will also get

freedom from various restrictions related to selling their produce,' Javadekar said.

Tomar said that this is a revolutionary and major decision in the field of agricultural produce.

'Today is a historic day in the sense that farmers are getting freedom to sell their produce.'

The farmers will be able to sell the products in the areas outside the mandis even from their home and there will be no tax on it, Tomar said.
