Bonanza for Central govt employees: Cabinet approves dearness allowance by 4%

New Delhi/IBNS: Giving some good news to central government employees, the Cabinet on Friday approved 4 percent dearness allowance (DA) for them. 

The DA now stands at 21 percent from 17 percent.

Union Minister Prakash Jadadekar said while addressing a press conference: "#Cabinet approves an increase of 4 % #DearnessAllowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f. 01.01.2020. This is over the existing rate of 17 percent of the Basic Pay/Pension."

Jadadekar said the move will cost the government Rs 14,595 crore.

The step is expected to benefit nearly  48 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners.
