Amway to support Mukti Rehabilitation Centre in Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 31 (IBNS): Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Amway India, will support Mukti Rehabilitation Centre, an NGO based out of Kolkata.

Amway Opportunity Foundation presented an annual educational and healthcare aid to the children of Mukti Rehabilitation Centre at a special event which was graced the presence of by S K Gazmer, IPS, Jt. Commissioner, Armed Police, Kolkata Police Headquarter.

At the event, Chandra Chakraborty, Area Manager, West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Amway India was present along with Anit Bose, President, K Viswanath, Secretary and Bidisha Ghosh Biswas, Treasurer on behalf of Mukti Rehabilitation Centre.

The support to Mukti Rehabilitation Centre is part of Project Sunrise – an initiative of AOF under which it extends support to almost 40 NGOs across the country which work in the area of education, healthcare (with focus on access to safe drinking water) and nutrition.

At the event, children from Mukti Rehabilitation Centre gave a small musical and recital performance.

Diptarag Bhattacharjee, Vice President - East, Amway India said, “The endeavour of Amway Opportunity Foundation is to enable the less-privileged to lead better lives. We are happy to support Mukti Rehabilitation Centre in this noble cause.”

At Amway we strive to enable the less privileged children to lead better lives. We believe we can work together with Mukti Rehabilitation Centre to build a bright future for the children. We would be very happy if our little contribution helps in the progress of children,” said Chandra Chakraborty, Area Manager, West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Amway India.

“Mukti works for the rehabilitation of platform kids and street children who have been abandoned by parents. We are delighted to work closely with Amway Opportunity Foundation which has been working for the benefit of less-privileged for a long time,” said K Viswanath, Secretary, Mukti Rehabilitation Centre.

Mukti Rehabilitation Centre commenced operation in 2002 with a noble mission to rehabilitate the street children and platform children who become addicted and have been abandoned by their parents.

Mukti recreates the bridge for the children to get back into the mainstream by weaning them off from addiction and placing them in regular schools and arranging for vocational training. The NGO also runs a non-formal education centre at Chengail in Howrah for the child labour. Presently it provides refuge to 78 children.
