Who is Sai Karthik Varma Datla? Indian-origin techie among 12 killed in horrific skydiving plane crash in US
An Indian-origin tech professional who had built a promising career in the United States was among 12 people killed in a tragic skydiving aircraft crash in Missouri, shortly after takeoff, according to media reports.
The victim has been identified as Sai Karthik Varma Datla, 24, a native of Andhra Pradesh.
Datla was working as a software engineer with AdventHealth in the Kansas City area, as per his LinkedIn profile.
He was based in the Kansas City metropolitan region and held a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Central Missouri.
He had previously worked with Capgemini.
At least 11 skydivers and one pilot lost their lives when the small aircraft crashed in the US state of Missouri on Sunday, media reports said.
According to the Bates County Emergency Management spokesperson speaking to the BBC, the aircraft—leased by a skydiving company—took off at around 11:20 a.m. local time. Shortly after departure, it reportedly failed to gain altitude, made a sharp left turn, and crashed approximately 200 yards from Butler Memorial Airport.
Authorities confirmed that all 12 people on board died in the incident.
During a press briefing, Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson stated that the aircraft was not a commercial passenger airliner.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as a Pacific Aerospace P-750, noting that it crashed while departing Butler Memorial Airport at around 11:35 a.m. local time on June 14 with 12 people on board.
