At least six people were killed in a series of shootings across multiple locations in Muscatine, Iowa, US, in what authorities believe was a domestic-related incident, police said on Tuesday.

According to a statement posted on the City of Muscatine's official website, police are investigating a string of homicides that occurred on Monday, June 1, 2026, at several locations within the city.

At approximately 12:12 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at 210 Park Avenue. Upon entering the residence, police and emergency medical personnel discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland of Muscatine, had fled the residence before officers arrived.

A short time later, law enforcement officers located McFarland on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge. He was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives received information suggesting there could be additional victims. Officers subsequently discovered an adult male dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence at 1509 Mill Street.

A further search led investigators to a business premises at 808 Grandview Avenue, where another adult male was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

"Preliminary findings indicate the shootings stemmed from a domestic-related dispute," the police statement said.

Authorities added that all the victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Reacting to the tragedy, Mariannette Miller-Meeks wrote on X: "Curt and I are heartbroken by the tragic loss of life in Muscatine today and ask that you join us in prayer for the victims and their families. I have been in contact with Mayor Bark and have offered the full support of my office as the community responds to this unthinkable tragedy."
