US to formally request Canada for Huawei CFO extradition

| @indiablooms | Jan 22, 2019, at 03:03 pm

Ottawa, Jan 22 (IBNS): The Canadian government has stated the US is yet to formally request it to extradite Huawei Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Meng Wanzhou, media reports said.

Wanzhou was arrested on Dec 1 as per the requests of the US authorities.

The US claimed that Meng had misled multinational banks over Iran-linked transactions. It also said the CEO had kept the banks in risk of violating US sanctions.

She was also granted a bail.

The Canadian government said it has the knowledge that the US will proceed with their extradition request.

The last date for formal request is Jan 30.

Meanwhile, China has demanded the US to drop the extradition request.
