The United States on Sunday said it conducted self-defence strikes on Iranian radar installations and command-and-control sites used for drones in Goruk and on Qeshm Island, Iran, over the weekend.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes were carried out in response to what it described as “aggressive Iranian actions,” including the downing of a US MQ-1 drone operating over international waters.

In its statement, CENTCOM said: “The measured and deliberate strikes occurred on Saturday and Sunday in response to aggressive Iranian actions that included the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters.”

It added: “U.S. fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defences, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters.”

CENTCOM confirmed that no US service members were harmed in the incident and said it would continue to protect US assets and interests in response to what it called unwarranted Iranian aggression during the ongoing ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed its aerospace forces targeted an air base used in what it described as a US attack on a telecommunications tower on Sirik Island, according to The Times of Israel.

Separately, reports from KUNA news agency said Kuwaiti air defences intercepted and repelled drone and missile attacks.
