US President Trump announces Oklahoma Congressman James Bridenstine as NASA head

Washington, Sep 2 ((IBNS): James Bridenstine, 42, a former Navy aviator, has been named as the head of NASA by US President Donald Trump, according to media reports on Saturday.

The Republican Congressman from Oklahoma had backed Trump during the presidential campaign, media reported.

Although he was a long favourite for the post, the nomination drew fire from two US senators from Florida who questioned the Oklahoma representative's qualifications to lead such a complex and highly technical agency, reported NDTV.

Bridenstine is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
