Washington/UNI: US President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19, the White House announced Thursday.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement that Biden, who tested positive on Thursday morning is "experiencing very mild symptoms" and "has begun taking Paxlovid."

Consistent with CDC guidelines, he will isolate at the White House and continue carrying out all of his duties fully during that time, the statement said.

He has been in contact with the White House staff members by phone this morning, and will participate in his planned meetings at the White House this morning via phone and Zoom from the residence, the statement added.

The 79-year-old is fully vaccinated and will continue to work in isolation until he tests negative.

Biden's last previous test for Covid-19 was Tuesday when he had a negative test result, the statement said.

As per standard protocol for any positive case at the White House, the White House Medical Unit will get in touch with all close contacts of the President, including Members of Congress and any members of the press who interacted with the President during yesterday’s travel, the statement added.
