US Marine tests positive for coronavirus

Washington/UNI: A US marine, based in Virginia, was tested positive for coronavirus, Pentagon chief spokesperson Jonathan Rath Hoffman confirmed on Sunday.

"A US Marine assigned to Fort Belvoir, VA tested positive today for COVID-19 and is currently being treated at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. The Marine recently returned from overseas where he was on official business. Secretary [of Defense Mark] Esper and the White House have been briefed," the spokesman said in a tweet.

The announcement marks the first positive case for a US defence personnel stationed in the country.

So far 19 people have died in the US and over 400 infected.
