UN chief appoints Jan Beagle of New Zealand as Under-Secretary-General for Management

New York, June 2(Just Earth News): United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday appointed Jan Beagle of New Zealand as the new Under-Secretary-General for Management.

Beagle is currently the Deputy Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and has over 35 years of experience in political, development and inter-agency work of the Organization.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, she also has extensive knowledge and experience in the management of human resources, finance, budget, information technology, administrative services and operations.

She has made important contributions in leading and advancing change management initiatives in the Secretariat and at the level of the UN system, the statement read.

She is an International Gender Champion and co-Chair of the Champions Working Group on Change Management, it added.

Beagle was formerly the Deputy Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva (2008-2009) and Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management (2005-2007). She joined the Organization in 2979.

In the statement, Secretary-General Guterres also noted that he is grateful to Yukio Takasu, the former Under-Secretary-General for Management, for his commitment and dedicated service to the Organization.
