London: James Cleverly has been named the new Interior Minister, replacing his former position as Foreign Secretary, in a major cabinet upheaval announced by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday.

The reshuffle saw the dismissal of Home Secretary Suella Braverman earlier in the day, following her defiance of No 10 over an article that accused the Metropolitan Police of bias in the policing of protests, BBC reports.

Braverman was criticized for allegedly contributing to heightened tensions ahead of protests in London.

Expressing her sentiments on the matter, Braverman said to BBC that serving as Home Secretary had been "the greatest privilege of my life."

James Cleverly has been named the new Interior Minister, replacing his former position as Foreign Secretary, in a major cabinet upheaval announced by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday.

As part of the reshuffle, James Cleverly will now lead the Home Office, while former Prime Minister David Cameron unexpectedly assumes the position of Foreign Secretary, succeeding Cleverly.

The changes extend beyond the Home Office, with Steve Barclay appointed as the new Environment Secretary, taking over from Therese Coffey.

Treasury Minister Victoria Atkins has been promoted to the role of Health Secretary, succeeding Barclay.

Additionally, Richard Holden, the former Transport Minister, has been named as the new Tory Party Chairman, and Laura Trott assumes the position of Chief Secretary to the Treasury, replacing John Glen.
