Manila, May 27 (Xinhua/UNI) The drivers of a passenger bus and a trailer truck were killed in a collision on Sunday in the northern Philippines, that also injured 57 people, local police said on Monday.

Michael Encio, Atimonan town police chief, said the car accident occurred around 12:00 midnight on Sunday local time while the two vehicles were negotiating a "sharp curve" along a highway in Atimonan town in Quezon province that links Manila to the provinces like Quezon and the Bicol region in the southern part of the Main Luzon island.

Both drivers died at the scene, police said, adding that seven of the 57 passengers were critically injured.

Initial police investigation showed the driver of the trailer truck lost control of his vehicle that consequently fell on its left side, and truck subsequently hit the approaching passenger bus.
