US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that Kazakhstan will join the Abraham Accords, calling it “a major step forward in building bridges across the world.”

Trump made the announcement following a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.“Kazakhstan is the first country of my second term to join the Abraham Accords, the first of many,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “This is a major step forward in building bridges across the world. More nations are lining up to embrace peace and prosperity through the Abraham Accords. We will soon announce a signing ceremony.”

He added that several other countries were in talks to join what he described as “a club of strength.”Kazakhstan is joining the Accord despite having long-standing diplomatic ties with Israel.

The announcement was made on a day when Trump met leaders of five Central Asian countries at the White House.

Trump and the officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan held bilateral meetings in the Oval Office before having a working dinner, reported Associated Press.

Reacting to the development, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on X: "President Trump continues to build on his record as the world's ultimate negotiator, with Kazakhstan’s joining the historic Abraham Accords today. We're thankful to Kazakhstan for supporting the President's mission to bring peace and stability around the world."

What is the  Abraham Accords?

AS per The Heritage Foundation website, the Abraham Accord peace agreements, first brokered by President Trump in 2020, mark a paradigm shift in Middle East diplomacy, and presented a potential pathway to the end of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
