Moscow, June 1 (Sputnik/UNI) US President Donald Trump has been informed on the deadly shooting in the southeastern US city of Virginia Beach and was monitoring the situation, the White House has said.

Eleven people were killed and six others had been taken to hospitals after a gunman opened fire inside a municipal center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Friday. The shooter, the longtime employee of the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities, who had reportedly been recently fired, had been killed by the police.

"The President has been briefed on the shooting in Virginia Beach, VA and continues to monitor the situation," the White House spokesman, Hogan Gidley, said on Friday as quoted by the CNN.

Virginia governor Ralph Northam said he was monitoring the situation, too.The official called the shooting "unspeakable, senseless violence."

Meanwhile, media reported, citing a law enforcement official, that the police had found a semi-automatic pistol and a rifle, which the authorities believed had been used for the shooting.
