An Indian-origin student from Andhra Pradesh died in a road accident in the US state of Ohio after a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction crossed the centre median and collided with the sedan he was driving, media reports said.

The accident occurred on August 7.

The deceased student was identified as Dileep Kumar Bungatavula, who had reportedly moved to the US to pursue his studies at Kent State University.

Reacting to the death of the Indian national, the Consulate General of India in New York said in a post on X: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Mr. Dileep Kumar Bungatavula, an Indian national, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in Ohio on August 7, 2026.”

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family during this difficult time. The Consulate is in touch with the family and is extending all possible assistance,” the Consulate said.

Meanwhile, the North America Telugu Society has launched a fundraiser to support Dileep’s family following his death.

“We humbly request everyone to support the cause and share the fundraiser widely among your friends, family, and community. Every contribution and every share can make a meaningful difference to Dileep’s grieving family during this extremely difficult time,” the organisation said in a Facebook post.
