Toronto Police who shot man three times gets cleared by SIU

| | Sep 24, 2016, at 02:48 am
Toronto, Sept 23 (IBNS): The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), watchdog of Ontario Police, announced there will be no charges after a man was shot three times and struck with a stun gun in Toronto in December 2015.

According to the SIU, the police were acting in self- defence in the incident, where he was sent to hospital, underwent a surgery and survived.

The agency says police were responding to a call about a drunk man who was a staff at a hospital.

When police officers knocked on the man’s door as well as through the screen door- the man warned them not to barge in or there “would be trouble”.

The Unit mentioned that the officers who were following the case told the man they were there to look after him, however the man walked out of the house holding a 17 centimeter serrated knife.

The officers however demanded the man to drop the knife, yet he did not.

The SIU mentioned, it was then that one of the officers shot the man three times, and the man remained on his feet.

The agency further said, a sergeant arrived and struck the man with a stun gun, which made him drop down to the ground. #

The SIU is a watchdog of the police, as it investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
