Theresa May rejects asylum application of Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi

London, Dec 1 (IBNS): British PM Theresa May has rejected a plea by Cabinet ministers to offer asylum to a Pakistani Christian woman-Asia Bibi- acquitted of blasphemy in the Asian nation recently, media reports said.

"The PM shrugged off a bid by Home Secretary Sajid Javid to give her refuge in the United Kingdom - despite him arguing passionately for it," reported The Sun.

"Both Mr Javid and Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt backed the bid - but Mrs May followed official advice which was that allowing her sanctuary in Britain would endanger British diplomats in Islamabad," reported the British tabloid.

Bibi was acquitted of blasphemy after spending eight years on death row.

She was released from Multan’s women prison in the light of the Oct 31 Supreme Court verdict that overturned her conviction and death sentence.

Pakistan had witnessed protests since Bibi was acquitted by the Supreme Court.
