Kabul: Taliban’s acting minister of Justice Abdul Hakim Sharaee said his government will implement a constitution from the era of Muhammad Zahir Shah which was ratified 57 years ago.

Abdul Hakim Sharaee in a meeting with the Chinese ambassador to Kabul said that the constitution will be implemented temporarily during their interim government, reports Khaama Press.

A statement released by the ministry of justice reads that the constitution will be implemented in a way that does not violate Sharia law and the principles of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the news agency reported.

Mohammed Zahir Shah had reigned from 1933 to 1973.

The constitution of King Zahir Shah was also temporarily implemented during the first years of Hamid Karzai, Khaama Press reported.

The Taliban took control over Afghanistan last month after entering Kabul on Aug 15.
