Protests broke out in Pakistan’s Swat region following the death of a student in a shooting incident on the premises of Jahanzeb College, media reports said.

Students from Jahanzeb College, Kabal Degree College and Takhta Band Degree College participated in the demonstration on Monday.

The protest was led by Insaf Student Federation’s Izhar, a student leader from Kabal Degree College, who demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.

According to the protesters, a student allegedly fired a shot at himself inside the college, resulting in his death at the scene, Dawn News reported.

The protesters demanded that if any negligence by the college administration or relevant officials is established, those responsible should be proceeded against in accordance with the law.

They also called for an effective and comprehensive security system at educational institutions to ensure the safety of students.

DSP Saidu Circle Shahenshah Khan, SHO Saidu Sharif Ziaur Rehman and AAC Babuzai Imran Ali Shah held talks with the protesting students and took them to the DSP’s office for negotiations.

Following the talks, the students reopened Saidu Sharif Road, which had been blocked during the demonstration, allowing traffic movement to resume.
