Sikh community protest leads to rescue of Pak minor from alleged grooming gang in London

A 16-year-old girl was rescued in Hounslow, West London, after members of the Sikh community staged a large protest outside a residential property where she was allegedly being held, following claims of sexual exploitation and grooming.

Around 200 people gathered on the street on Wednesday, chanting Sikh religious slogans, including “Jo Bole So Nihaal, Sat Sri Akal,” demanding police action.

After several hours, officers intervened, took one suspect into custody, and ensured the girl was safely released.

Videos of the protest have since gone viral on social media, showing police escorting a man believed to be in his late 30s into a police van as crowds looked on.

According to the Sikh Press Association, the accused had allegedly befriended the girl when she was 13 years old and gradually groomed her.

She was reportedly persuaded to leave her family home after turning 16. The organisation further claimed that the teenager was sexually assaulted by six other men linked to the same group. Police have not publicly confirmed all details of these allegations.

The property where the suspect lived is located near multiple secondary schools, raising concerns among local residents about safeguarding and delayed intervention.

The case has reignited debate in the UK over organised child sexual exploitation. Multiple official inquiries over the past decade have found that grooming gangs have targeted vulnerable girls, often using manipulation, coercion, and threats to isolate victims from their families.

A major inquiry led by Professor Alexis Jay found that at least 1,400 children were sexually abused in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, primarily by men of Pakistani origin . A subsequent 2022 national review concluded that child sexual abuse remains “endemic” across England and Wales.

The issue has also drawn political attention. Last year, Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe called for a full national inquiry into grooming gangs, a move supported publicly by tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Responding on X, Musk wrote that authorities should “do the right thing” for victims who suffered severe abuse.

Police have said investigations in the Hounslow case are ongoing, and further arrests have not been ruled out.
