Damascus, Apr 9 (IBNS): Several people are feared to have been killed in a suspected missile attack on a military airport in Syria, media reports said on Monday.

The incident reportedly left several people injured.

State news agency SANA said several missiles struck the Tayfur airbase, also known as T4, near the city of Homs in the early hours of Monday,BBC reported.

More details are awaited.

The US has denied its involvement in the incident.

"At this time, the Department of Defense is not conducting air strikes in Syria. However, we continue to closely watch the situation and support the ongoing diplomatic efforts to hold those who use chemical weapons, in Syria and otherwise, accountable," CNN reported quoting a Pentagon statement.

The incident occurred amid suspected chemical attack in Syria's Douma town that left 70 people killed.

A chemical attack in Douma, the last rebel-held stronghold near Syria's capital, Damascus, has killed at least 70 people and affected hundreds, rescue workers have told Al Jazeera.

US President Donald Trump has attacked Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the suspected chemical attack.

Trump tweeted: "Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world. President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price."

He said: "To pay. Open area immediately for medical help and verification. Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. SICK!."
