Kabul, Feb 11 (IBNS): Security officials detained a senior Taliban leader during an operation in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Monday, media reports said.

Taliban’s head for Jaldak and Tarnak areas of Shahr-u-Safa district was arrested during an operation in the Arghistan district of Kandahar, reported Pajhwok Afghan News.

Kandahar police chief Gen. Tadin Khan told the Afghanistan-based news agency that the insurgent commander was caught while attempting to cross the border into Pakistan.

A deputy of the Taliban commander was killed along with four other militants, the police official told the news agency.

Some weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the spot.
