Russian amateur aviator, 88, dies while flying homemade helicopter

An 88-year-old amateur aircraft model creator in Russia died while attempting to take off his homemade helicopter.

The deceased man belonged to the Omutninsky district of western Russia’s Kirov Region.

He tried to fly in the self-built helicopter on Thursday.

However, the helicopter self-destructed during take-off, CNN reported quoting a news released unveiled by the Volga Region Transport Prosecutor’s Office.

Local media identified the deceased person as  Vladimir Trapeznikov.

He was taken to the Omutninsky District Hospital, the regional transport prosecutor’s office told CNN.

He later died in the hospital.

The vehicle was unregistered, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated, the prosecutor’s office added.

According to reports, the deceased person was a self-taught investor.

He had gained attention in his locality for framing flying machines.
