RPG chairman appeals to Minister Sushma Swaraj to rescue kidnapped employees in Afghanistan

New Delhi, May 7 (IBNS): Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises, has sought the help of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to rescue the employees who have been abducted by Taliban gunmen in Afghanistan, according to media reports on Monday.

He also tweeted, "Request @SushmaSwaraj and Ministry of External Affairs to help rescue 7 of our managers from the kidnapping in Afghanistan. #KEC"

Indian officials on Sunday said they were aware of the abduction of Indian nationals in Afghanistan.

"We are aware of the abduction of Indian nationals from Baghlan province in Afghanistan.We are in contact with the Afghan authorities and further details are being ascertained," read a statement issued by the MEA.

At least six Indian nationals were abducted by unknown armed men in Baghlan province of Afghanistan on Sunday, media reports said.

Those abducted were working with KEC, an RPG group company, reports said.

Apart from the Indian nationals, one Afghan employee of the company was also abducted by the armed men from Bagh-e-Shamal village.

The kidnapping happened while they were traveling to an area where the company owns an electricity sub-station contract, reported Tolo News.

Baghlan provincial council have linked the incident to the Taliban, who have not yet commented, reported the Afghanistan based news channel.

Meanwhile, media reports on Monday, said that Intelligence officials of Afghanistan have detained a three-member kidnap gang from capital Kabul city.

The Pajhwok Afghan News quoted an official statement from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) that said  NDS special forces detained the three suspects named Farhad, Sayed Hassan and Khalil and also recovered a cache of weapons from them.
