Gaza/Xinhua/UNI: Qatar on Tuesday started distributing 10 million U.S. dollars to 100,000 poor families in the Gaza Strip to help them fight COVID-19 epidemic.

Each family would receive 100 dollars, Qatari Committee for Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip said in a statement.

The process of distributing the funds would take two weeks according to a new mechanism in coordination with the ministries of the health and interior in Gaza, the statement added.

Qatar earlier pledged a 125-million-dollar anti-coronavirus aid package to Gaza in case of the spread of the viral respiratory disease.

The Health Ministry in Gaza, a Palestinian coastal enclave that has been under Israeli blockade for more than 13 years, has so far reported 10 COVID-19 cases.
