Pope Francis marks Christmas Mass

| | Dec 25, 2016, at 02:56 pm
Vatican City, Dec 25 (IBNS): Amid tight security, Pope Francis celebrated Christmas Mass here on Saturday, media reports said.

Midnight Mass is celebrated on Christmas Eve, traditionally at midnight, in commemoration of Jesus Christ birth.

During the service, the Pope was quoted as saying by BBC that Christmas had been "taken hostage" by materialism, and that the season needed more humility.

The Pope tweeted on Sunday: "Like the shepherds of Bethlehem, may we too, with eyes full of amazement and wonder, gaze upon the Child Jesus, the Son of God."

Christmas is celebrated across the globe on Sunday.
