Moscow, Apr 9 (Sputnik/UNI) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed condolences to families of the US soldiers, who were killed by Monday terror attack near the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

On Monday, NATO's Resolute Support Mission said that three US service members and a contractor died in an explosion near the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. The blast also left three US soldiers injured.

“My heartfelt prayers to the families of the Americans killed near Bagram. I condemn this disgusting terrorist act. US service members have sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan to keep us safe and no cowardly act of terror will impede our efforts to achieve peace,” Pompeo wrote on his Twitter page.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from political, social and security-related instability due to the simmering insurgency, including that of the Taliban movement and the Islamic State terrorist group (outlawed in Russia).

The Resolute Support mission comprises over 13,000 servicemen, who are providing training and advice to the Afghan security personnel in their fight against terrorism and militant insurgency. The mission was launched in 2015.
