At least two suspected terrorists were killed during a clash with police after a patrol party of the township police station came under attack close to the Central Jail in Pakistan's Bannu region on Saturday.

A police official told Dawn News that a police party was on a routine patrol duty in the area when they came under attack, which left one of the policemen injured.

A fierce gunfight ensued after police retaliated.

“During the exchange of fire, police neutralised two assailants,” an official told Dawn News.

Later, the bodies were shifted to hospital for identification.

The official said the injured cop was shifted to hospital and he is currently out of danger.

District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed visited the DHQ hospital and inquired after the wounded policeman, reported Dawn News.

“After the encounter, police have beefed up security in the district with increasing patrolling on busy roads and arteries,” the official told the Pakistani newspaper.

Pakistan has witnessed a spike in terror attacks in recent months.
