Peshawar, Dec 16 (IBNS): After a day-long brutality where 132 people, including school children, were killed at the Army Public School and College in Peshawar city by militants, the country's officials have said the siege at the educational institution is over, media reports said.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban terrorists has taken responsibility for the attack which is being considered as one of the deadliest ones in recent times that the Asian nation has witnessed.

Among those killed, 100 were school students, reports said.

About 245 other students and teachers have suffered injuries while some of them are in a serious condition.

The Taliban terror outfit claimed the responsibility of the attack and said it is a response to the Pakistan Army’s military operation in North Waziristan launched in June this year.

According to reports, six estimated terrorists stormed into the school and targetted the children.

All of them have been gunned down by the security forces, Pakistan Police confirmed.

Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif has vowed to eliminate the militants from the nation.

DG ISPR Maj-Gen Asim Bajwa tweeted quoting Sharif: "Extremely saddened, our resolve has taken new height. Will cont go after inhuman beasts, their facilators till their final elimination."

"They have hit at the heart of the nation, but let me reiterate they can't in any way diminish the will of this great nation," he said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reached Peshawar.

While interacting with the media, he said all those responsible for the attack will not be spared.

"My condolences with the families of those who lost their kids in the terror attack," Sharif said.

PM Sharif has announced a three-day mourning in wake of the attack.

He also called for an all-party meeting in Peshawar on Wednesday.

Condemning the incident, PTI's Imran Khan tweeted: "Shocked at attack on school in Peshawar. Strongly condemn this inhuman act of utter barbarism."

Pakistan Prime Minister's daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif posted on her Twitter homepage: "The Prime Minister being briefed by Corp Commander Peshawar at CCHQ."

She said: "The biggest human tragedy Pakistan may have ever seen. No words can suffice. Even as a mother it haunts me to even try to relate. Allah Rehm."

Global leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have condemned the attack.

The White House tweeted quoting US President Barack Obama: "The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms today’s horrific attack…in Peshawar, Pakistan."

UK PM David Cameron said: "The news from Pakistan is deeply shocking. It's horrifying that children are being killed simply for going to school."

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condemned the terrorist attack at an Army Public School and College in Pakistan's Peshawar city which killed at least 132 people.

Mukherjee has expressed deep anguish and strongly condemned the killing of innocent school children and teachers by terrorists in the Army Public School in the Pakistani city.

The President said such heinous acts are against all tenets of humanity.

"They are nothing but a manifestation of the extreme evil that terrorists are capable of. The world community must unite and redouble efforts to root out terrors from every country and society," Mukherjee said.

The President conveyed his condolences to the grieving families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Condemning the attack, Prime Minister Narendra said: "Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack at a school in Peshawar.
