Pakistan PM lauds working of Indian embassies, reprimands its own diplomats

| @indiablooms | May 07, 2021, at 01:01 pm

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has lauded the working of Indian embassies in foreign countries, saying they work better and remain engaged to attract foreign investment in India. He advised Pakistani diplomats to adopt course corrections in their functioning.

The unintentional praise for India came when Khan was addressing Pakistanis diplomats posted in capitals around the world. The meeting was called after his office received multiple complaints of its embassies, especially in Saudi Arabia and UAE.

“I must say Indian embassies are extremely proactive there,” Khan said in his address. Last week, he had suspended its Saudi ambassador following multiple complaints from its nationals living there. Around six officials posted there have also been recalled.

He asked diplomats to change their colonial-era working style. The current indifferent attitude towards expatriates was "unforgivable", he told them.

"We cannot continue like this. The way our embassies are running, this could work in an old colonial system but not in today's Pakistan,” he said. "I remember some ambassadors used to have a really bad attitude with the labor community like masters would deal their [subjects] in the colonial days," he was quoted as saying, Dawn.

If the country had not gone bankrupt by now, he claimed, thanks to the remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis. He said he could not focus complaints earlier as he was “preoccupied with domestic issues.”
