Pakistan: JUI-F activists protest after prayer leader goes missing

Sukkur, Pakistan: The alleged kidnapping of a prayer leader in Kandowan locality in Pakistan on Tuesday led to a protest by local Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl leaders and workers.

Several local residents also joined the protest.

Speaking to reporters, the protesters said that Maulana Abdul Hameed Mahar was a JUI-F worker and prayer leader of a mosque located within his neighbourhood, reports The Dawn.

They said he used to awaken the faithful for Sehri and as a daily routine, he left his home about one hour before dawn but did not return home.

A search was mounted in the morning by his family members and neighbours, who found only sleepers of Maulana Mahar lying in the fields near the mosque.

They claimed that footprints of several people around the sleepers made them believe that the Maulana might have offered resistance to his kidnappers.

The protesters asked the Sukkur SSP to ensure an early recovery of Maulana Mahar.
